This month's tournament saw a repeat of the May finals with Alistair Jones and Jason Quarry battling it out. Honours went again to Alistair coming through at 21-17 and 21-18; however, it should be noted that Jason is closing the gap. So well done to those two.

This month's singles witnessed two players, both losing finalists in previous tournaments, now head to head for the Centre's top achievement. Jason had lost his final to England player Nicola Cerfontyne last new year and Alistair had lost to Julien Cordiez in April, so all to play for. After some long rallies and some incredible shots it was Alistair who triumphed 21-15 and 21-14.
![]() The EPT and their coaches have all put in strong performances recently. To read more about the successes of Abigail Holden, Freya Redfearn, David Jones, Charlie Castle and others, please check out the full review. There are some great photos and you will hear about success at the National and European Championships. We are particularly proud that Team Wycombe has achieved a national podium finishes in U11, U13, U15, U17, U19, Senior & Masters, all in a single season! Key Successes Over Past 10 Weeks
The Easter Singles Tournament was "quite an intense evening" with over 50 games played, according to organiser Colin Beckley!
New players welcomed to the tournament were Kaushik, Matt and Sean, who all played admirably. Special mention goes to Matt, who progressed to the quarter finals from a tight group - well done to him. The climax of the evening was obviously the grand final between Alistair and Julien. At first it looked as Alistair might take the honours, leading all the way in the first game but faltering at the very last hurdle to lose 21-20. In the second game however it was all Julien, Alistair wilted probably due to an earlier tough semi-final with Tim and lack of match practice. Julien took the second game and the tournament 21-13. So it is congratulations to Julien, not losing a game all evening and now third time champion! It was another French victory in the Consolation Cup, with Aurelia winning all three games convincingly, so well done to her too. ![]() Badminton Wycombe was this year's venue for the AoC Sport National Badminton Finals - Aoc Sport is the leading organisation for college sport and physical activity. The matches were passionately contested and everyone was impressed with the professional quality of the badminton facilities that we are able to offer. Exeter College took on Cirenceter College in the Cup Final, with Exeter winning 6-4 having taken the ladies singles, and both the mixed doubles. In the Plate competition Havant College dominated in a 9-1 victory over New College Pontefract. C. Fearnley took the sole rubber against Havant in a fiercely contested men's singles (21-17, 21-18). The England Performance Training (EPT) squad started 2015 with a focus on personalised athletic conditioning with an aim to learn more about the athletic characteristics of world-class badminton players and their own individual needs. This increased awareness has helped players to integrate their strength and conditioning programmes into their weekly schedules so they can train as all-round athletes. With support from Evan Jenkins at Bisham Abbey and Matt Jaggard in Lightwater, players are starting to see the hard work paying off with good physical development, and transference from the gym to the court.
It has been fantastic to have the international experience and input of EPT assistant coaches Gary Fox and Daryl Jacobs who have helped to inject an extra intensity into sessions whilst also providing one to one support to players throughout the week when possible. The coaching team is working well together and is learning lots with the players by adopting a personalised and flexible approach to progress. Players at the top end of EPT are starting to make a transition to senior international levels and with that, I am really happy to see them taking more responsibility for the quality, consistency and progress of their own training. The group is working well together, encouraging each other to maintain purpose and high standards within supportive, enjoyable environment. There have been some good recent performances at gold star tournaments, U15 8 nations, and Senior and U19 nationals. Special congratulations to:
The players are now preparing for their junior age-group nationals. They are all looking forward to challenging themselves and using their newly learned skills to win rallies, matches and medals. Please feel free to pop in and wish the players luck as they prepare for nationals and European championships!
